Merewether Public School principal Greg Culhane said the 170 students were asked to bring their favourite books along to participate in the Wednesday parade, which was attended by family members and carers.
Students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book - or film or television - characters.

Mr Culhane said it was at least the 20th time the school had held the event.
He said the atmosphere in the lead up to the parade was of "excitement and passion for books - [there were] books everywhere and books sold and given."
"All week we celebrate reading and the love of books.
"This year the Children's Book Council of Australia has chosen the theme 'Reading is My Secret Power'."
He said characters from Harry Potter, Star Wars and Avengers were most popular, but there were also appearances by August from Wonder, the world's most tattooed man from the Guinness Book of Records and mountain climber and author Michael Groom.
Some teachers dressed up as Where's Wally's lead and The Cat in the Hat.
He said students participate in the Daily 5 program: reading to self, working on writing, reading to someone else, word work and listening to reading.
