The three-year-old was set to race in a $35,000 benchmark 68 (1600m) at Newcastle last week but the second half of that program was cancelled because of visibility concerns.
Perry then took Sky Lab to town on Saturday and the Real Impact gelding, a $48,000 buy, made the most of an inside run to power home late and take out the $125,000 benchmark 78 for three and four-year-olds (1600m).
Now with three wins in six starts and $134,230 in stakes, Sky Lab is set to contest the major three-year-old staying races in the autumn.
"He's always been a nice horse," Perry said on Sunday. "The noms shut on Tuesday for the guineas and derbies and I'll put him in all the three-year-old races and see where he heads.
"He's always looked like he wanted to stay, that's the best part of his win yesterday, I reckon, the further he goes the better he will like it."
Jockey Robbie Dolan told Sky Thoroughbred Central: "He's a very nice horse, he's going to get over a bit of ground. He could be a Queensland Derby sort of horse, but, geez, he's a great mover."
"He switched off lovely in the run and he actually gave me a lot of confidence even going around to the barrier. He's going to very exciting I'd say."
