The six-time national champions are set to take on other NSW and ACT clubs such as 2019 winners the Sydney Bears, Sydney Ice Dogs and Canberra Brave throughout the year.
Final details have yet to be officially announced but AIHL released a statement online during the week introducing the Super Series concept, which is due to get underway in May.
"In the east, teams across NSW and ACT will compete against each other to prove which team has what it takes to be the best for 2021," the AIHL statement read.
The national sporting body said a similar concept, but with less established clubs, is due to be rolled out in Victoria for Melbourne Ice and Melbourne Mustangs.
AIHL also said there are also plans being worked on for the Adelaide Adrenaline and Perth Thunder.
This follows last week's announcement that the Goodall Cup would again be sidelined.
"We're not going to be able to hold our usual national competition for the Goodall [Cup]. Unfortunately, the situation with borders right now means it's too tricky to have everyone travelling from state to state like we usually would," the AIHL statement read.
The 2020 season never eventuated because of the global coronavirus pandemic.
The Northstars played three exhibition games against the Ice Dogs last year.
