Jones will serve as one of Glory head coach Ian Ferguson’s two assistants.
The home-grown Novocastrian was expected to one day coach the Jets before he was sacked by former mentor Branko Culina two years ago.
After spending stints coaching in Indonesia and China, Jones hoped to take over the Jets youth team role which was made available last month by the departure of Arthur Papas.
That role has since been filled by Clayton Zane.
At Glory, Jones will be oversee technique, conditioning and video analysis.
‘‘I’ve always kept in contact with Fergie and when the gig came up he went into bat for me,’’ Jones told the Newcastle Herald.
‘‘It’s an exciting opportunity to get back into the A-League again.’’
Jones is flying to Perth today and will begin the role tomorrow.
