Smuggled illegally into Australia and found snapping away in a Sydney sewer almost 15 years ago, Leonardo is renowned as the nation's biggest alligator snapping turtle.
Weighing 45 kilograms, Leonardo stretches out at half a metre and can snap a broomstick with his jaws.
His species is typically found in the south-eastern US between Texas and Florida, and are the heaviest freshwater turtles on the planet.
Removed from his tank in the Australian Reptile Park's Lost World of Reptiles exhibit on Thursday for an annual health check, he obliged his adoring fans by snapping bamboo with his mouth.
