NORTH Stars coach Andrew Petrie has not minced words in describing the CBR Brave and his former star player, Geordie Wudrick, after Canberra “poached” the Canadian three weeks before the Australian Ice Hockey League season.

CBR (3-1) visit Newcastle (2-1) on Sunday in the first meeting between the sides since Wudrick’s departure.
The big power forward was league MVP last year with 44 goals and 47 assists for champions Newcastle and has led the Brave to the top of the AIHL after four games.
“We had a verbal commitment from the first beer after the grand final last year,” Petrie said of Wudrick. “As far as I’m concerned, the CBR stands for Can Buy Resources but Can’t Buy Respect.
“Canberra have the worst building in the league, it’s the poorest facility, the smallest ice, the poorest quality of ice, and Canberra’s in the middle of nowhere.”
Petrie said Wudrick was “one of the nicest blokes” he had met in hockey, but he did not respect the way he had left Newcastle.
The North Stars play the Sydney Ice Dogs, Petrie’s former club, in Sydney on Saturday and the Brave at Warners Bay on Sunday at 5pm.
Sunday’s game will give North Stars fans another look at star import Brandon Wong, who is one week into a five-game guest stint in Newcastle.
