The circa 1925 building, which is located on Belford Street in Broadmeadow, was abandoned in July when new Fire and Rescue headquarters opened in Lambton.

The heritage-listed Hamilton station was one of three Newcastle stations to be emptied-out. While Fire and Rescue is yet to identify further uses for the Lambton and New Lambton stations, Hamilton is expected to fetch more than $1 million for the state government at auction next month.

Colliers International commercial director Matt Kearney said the site had attracted a steady stream of interest. The site is zoned for high density residential. A restaurant or bar, shop top housing and units have all been touted as future uses for the historic building.

“The fact that it’s a little bit different, a little bit quirky, is what’s going to generate that level of interest,” Mr Kearney said on Thursday.
