HUNTER pubs have made a splash at the state’s top hotel awards overnight, with seven establishments recognised at the NSW Australian Hotels Association Awards for Excellence.

The Lucky, Hamilton’s Sydney Junction Hotel, Harrigans Irish Pub at Pokolbin, Caves Beachside Hotel and the Crown and Anchor all earned praise at the Sydney event on Tuesday night.
Green Hills’ The George Tavern, which hosted a fundraiser for injured bar manager Dom Punch in September, won the heart of the community category.
The Lucky was highly commended in the best country casual dining venue award, which ultimately went to the Sydney Junction Hotel.
The Hamilton hotel also won a high commendation in best innovative refurbishment.
Harrigans claimed best retail liquor outlet and its upstairs restaurant Sprout Dining earned the Crown and Anchor a high commendation in the best restaurant race.
That honour ultimately went to Willow Tree Inn’s Graze.
Caves Beachside Hotel earned best pub-style accommodation (deluxe overnight experience).
AHA NSW chief executive John Whelan said the awards were about rewarding innovation, quality and excellence around the state.
“To be highly commended in such competitive categories also deserves recognition,” he said.
“My congratulations go to all the winners.”
