Bevan began his stellar career as a cadet reporter at the Newcastle Herald in 1984, before moving into radio and television reporting with Channel Nine and the ABC.
Now he has returned home to take on the position of senior journalist at the Herald.
“I wanted to come back to my home town, to my home region,” Bevan said.
“Emotionally, I never really left. I’ve always held a great regard and fondness and gratitude for my training here at the Newcastle Herald, and I enjoy writing, so the combination of all those things has lead me back here.”
As well as being a TV anchor for ABC News 24, Bevan was the ABC’s Moscow correspondent for two years, the presenter of international affairs program The World and an occasional host of current affairs chat show The Drum.
Bevan also released a solo EP earlier this year.
