The teenage starter broke the deadlock in the dying moments against the University of Western Australia in Perth on Friday after the women’s team trailed by three going into the fourth and final quarter.
“There was only a couple of seconds left on the clock, so it was basically on the buzzer,” Hurricanes coach Jenny MacGregor said.
“The girls did really well, especially considering we had 18 ejections to their six.”
The 8-7 triumph, including five goals in the last term, was balanced out by a 7-6 loss to the same opponents on Sunday. Hunter also went down to Fremantle twice – 11-7 on Saturday and 18-8 on Thursday.
The Hurricanes men almost defeated Fremantle on Thursday (13-12) but fell over in Saturday’s return fixture (16-4). The visitors were also defeated on both occasions by University of Western Australia – 14-6 on Sunday and 10-2 on Friday.
The Hurricanes have this weekend off National Water Polo League duties.
They then host Sydney University in a double header on March 18 and 19, which may feature a game in Newcastle Harbour.
Rounds 11 and 12 follow at home against Balmain and Adelaide respectively.
