Mr Bromhead had to be helped out of the Legislative Assembly in a wheelchair and was taken by an ambulance to hospital.
He had risen to ask a question but his right leg gave way, leaving him wincing in pain.
It brought question time to an abrupt halt not long after it began, as Labor’s Dr Andrew McDonald and fellow Nationals MP Leslie Williams rushed to Mr Bromhead’s aid.
A spokeswoman for NSW Nationals leader and Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner said Mr Bromhead has had a post-operative infection in his leg after surgery to place a pin for traction following a car accident prior to the state election.
‘‘Mr Bromhead is grateful to Dr Andrew McDonald and former nurse Leslie Williams for their assistance today,’’ she said.
‘‘Mr Bromhead is in good spirits and expressed his gratitude to the NSW Ambulance Service and the Special Constables for their help.’’
