Wau arrived in Newcastle last night and will train with the Jets from tomorrow.
A left winger, Wau has spent the majority of his career in the Dutch second division but most recently played in Cyprus the previous destination for Mario Jardel and Paul Okon before they joined the Jets.
"For all intents and purposes, he is a typical Dutch wide player," Jets high-performance manager Ian Crook said.
"Obviously we need to have a look at him more closely, but most players from Holland are good technically.
"He has some pace and a left foot, which gives a nice balance to things."
Wau, who turned 26 yesterday, was contracted to PSV Eindhoven from 2001 to 2005 but only made one appearance for the Dutch giants, coming off the bench in a UEFA Cup match.
While at Eindhoven he had loan stints at MVV Maastricht, scoring three goals in 32 matches, and Helmond Sport (13 goals in 52 matches).
He joined Roosendaal in 2005, making 16 appearances before again being loaned out, this time to FC Denbosch where he scored seven goals in 29 game.
He left Holland for Cyprus last year where he and older brother Nuelson played for Nea Salamis Ammochostos.
He returned to Holland mid season after a contractual dispute with the club.
Wau does not qualify for marquee status, nor is he a striker, which the Jets so desperately need.
But with Adam Griffiths (Gold Coast) and Jade North (North Queensland) headed elsewhere next season and Noel Spencer's future in doubt, the Jets are looking to add quality to the squad before the start of the Asian Champions League in March.
"We are definitely looking at the Asian Champions League to ensure we have the strongest squad possible," van Egmond said.
"He is not a striker, but has other qualities. We need people who are capable of going past people and scoring goals."
If Wau aims up, there is a chance he could be added to the squad immediately.
"There are a few options open to us," Jets coach Gary van Egmond said.
"We have not filled the marquee place yet. We could move Joel into that position and free up some money.
"We could also bring Millsy [Mark Milligan] under the cap and use another guest player.
"First we have to determine how effective Wau could be for us."
Wau might not be the only new face at training this week.
"There is a boy from Finland who may be coming in and another boy Ante Covic played with in Sweden [Mikkel Jensen]," van Egmond said. "He is coming more so on holiday, but he may be keen to have a look at the place. If that is the case, we will go through the right process."
