With sunny weather forecast for most of Friday, Australia Day shaped up to be another big celebration in the region. It was hot and humid, but that did not stop people getting out and about.
In Newcastle there were 180 people from 32 nations pledging loyalty to their new homeland, in was the biggest Australia Day citizenship ceremony anywhere in NSW and the largest in the city’s history. Check it out here.
The day also saw Australia Day honours and awards handed out, which recognised people in the community for their excellence, achievement or meritorious service and contributions.
