Ponga has barely trained with the squad for the past two months after firstly straining his hamstring against the Bulldogs and missing the following two games before rolling his ankle at training almost four weeks ago in the lead up to the Cowboys game.
He played against the Cowboys and in subsequent matches against Wests Tigers and the Warriors but is playing wounded with his ankle heavily strapped.
“We’ll certainly have a look at giving him a rest to try and get over it,”Knights coach Nathan Brown said.
“He is showing a lot of courage to keep playing with it but it makes it hard for him and the team when he can’t train.”
Brown said there won’t be too many changes to his side to meet the Panthers following their 20-4 defeat to the Warriors in Auckland on Friday night.
Young debutant Pasami Saulo is certain to be retained.
