LONG LUNCH The next Urban Mess long lunch on September 9, organised by chef Tony Harrison and Inner City Winemakers, is Creole in flavour. It’s on noon to 4pm at Merewether Surf Lifesaving Club. As always, bookings aren’t being taken but here’s a tip – get there early to avoid missing out. Also, rumour has it that Harrison, who heads up Bistro Lowlands, has just taken over the kitchen at North Hamilton Bowling Club.
NAME CHANGE The cafe previously known as Haywire on Darby is changing its name to Baba Yaga. The 155 Darby Street venue has the same owner but a new look. Yes, the Nutella and banana gozleme is still on the menu.
SWEET ADDITION If you’re headed south to Smooth Festival of Chocolate Saturday or Sunday at Sydney Olympic Park, keep an eye out for Newcastle’s own Choux Patisserie in Hall 6, the “Chocolatiers’ Quarters”.
SPRING FUN Westfield Kotara is holding “Taste.Shop.Play” next weekend (September 8 and 9). Among other activities on offer is an 11am Pizza & Bubbles Masterclass at Crinitis, located at The Rooftop.
PARK LIFE Eat Street Cooranbong returns to Cooranbong Park Sunday (September 2), noon to 6pm. Take dad along and (try to) enter him in the bucking bull competition for his chance to win a feed.
ON OFFER Ribs & Burgers at Charlestown Square is serving The Deadpool Double burger (pictured) until September 23 – it’s a black “activated charcoal” bun with pickles, American cheese, onion, two Angus beef patties, BBQ sauce and aioli. The offer coincides with the release of Deadpool 2 on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital.
