SEVERE thunderstorms are lashing the Central Coast and parts of Lake Macquarie, causing power outages in some areas.

Just after 5pm, the Bureau of Meteorology said the storms were likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
“Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Parramatta, Wollongong, Bowral, Katoomba, Moree and Narrabri,” the BoM said.
Some 38.6mm of rain was recorded at Upper Bowman (near Barrington Tops) in 30 minutes from 2.10pm to 2.40pm.
And 35mm was recorded at Mt Elliot (near Gosford) in 30 minutes from 2.55 to 3.25pm.
The State Emergency Services is advising people in the warning area to move their car under cover if possible.
The Bureau of Meteorology will issue its next warning at 8.10pm.
