As Killing Heidi belted out nostalgic angsty rock bangers from the early 2000s to cheering crowds, and Skunkhour hypnotised the throng with funk-fuelled hip-hop-styled tunes from the mid-90s, Scene and Heard at Wickham Park transported thousands of festivalgoers back in time last Sunday in a second day of a jam-packed weekend for live music at Newcastle.
Festival headliners The Living End rounded out a stellar line-up of acts at the weekend, which included alt-rockers Something for Kate, Spiderbait, dance music group Sneaky Sound System, Dallas Crane and more.
The festival for Gen X and Y followed the youth-oriented This That festival on Saturday, which saw around 15,000 young people converge on Wickham Park to see what was arguably the biggest line-up in the youth festival’s four-year run.
Newcastle City Police District with assistance from drug detection dogs ran a large police operation on November 3 and 4 for the two festivals which attracted 20,000 music lovers.
Police praised the behaviour of Sunday’s Scene and HEard punters despite making 13 drug detections.
Four people were allegedly found to be possessing cannabis and cocaine.
