The 2018 winning wine is the 2007 Bin 9000, the 2013 vintage of which earlier this year was judged the best semillon in the NSW Wine Awards.
McGuigan is an arm of the ASX-listed Australian Wine Vintages (AVL) and the group's chief executive-chief winemaker Neil McGuigan said the nine out-of-10 performance in the IWSC semillon trophy was a remarkable achievement.
“I am proud to be able to demonstrate the complexity of Australian semillon, which is the Hunter Valley's signature varietal and is deserving of its place among the world's greatest wines,” he said.
The Bin 9000 wines are made at Pokolbin by McGuigan senior Hunter winemaker Peter Hall.
