The 20-year-old had her second crack at her hometown track over the weekend, switching to SuperUtes after competing in Aussie Racing Cars at the inaugural event 12 months ago.
“We are definitely considering jumping back into the SuperUtes next year,” Poynting told the Newcastle Herald. “I think at this stage I’ll maybe do a full season of Aussie Cars again, a few rounds in the utes and anything else I can get my hands on really. I’ll jump in anything, whatever it takes to race here [in Newcastle].”
Poynting was eighth in Sunday’s third and final SuperUtes race, featuring her quickest lap time of one minute and 34.9550 seconds. She was last in the opening two contests.
Fellow Newcastle driver Aaren Russell recorded a second place finish in the same support category on Saturday. The Woodrising 27-year-old, who drove in the main Supercars section last year, crashed on turn one of Sunday’s race three after being second on the grid. He was seventh in race two.
Berry Park’s Gavan Reynolds was the best Hunter performer in the Toyota 86 class at 18th overall after three races across the two days. Metford’s Hayden Jackson was 23rd and Rathmines’ Amy Mrcela was 26th.
Kilaben Bay’s Cameron Mason was leading Saturday’s opening Touring Car Masters race before his brakes failed at the top of Watt Street on lap three. The eventual seventh-place finish was his best for the weekend.
