THE heat was off for much of the Hunter on Sunday, but air conditioners are unlikely to get a rest amid fluctuating forecasts for the week ahead.
Sweet relief from a statewide heatwave arrived in the Hunter on Saturday evening, with a cloudy Sunday dampening temperatures.
With similar conditions expected into Monday, Tuesday is predicted to jump back to highs of 38 and 37 degrees respectively in Maitland.
If the forecast holds, a cool Thursday will give way to a 39 degree Saturday. Newcastle temperatures are due to be milder, peaking at 33 degrees through the week and 34 by Saturday.
