Wendt, a left-back, played several times for Australia, including one full international against South Africa, in the 1950s after starting his career with Adamstown, Police Boys and New Lambton in his home city.
He later played in Sydney with Auburn and Gladesville-Ryde.
Recognised as one of the best defenders of his era in Australia, he captained NSW and played for his state 20 times.
