Dr Reed has worked for 20 years at John Hunter Hospital as a maxillofacial surgeon focusing on facial trauma, infections and mouth cancer.
The 61-year-old is an honorary lecturer at the University of Newcastle and runs practices at Newcastle, Maitland and the Central Coast.
He said he was running for One Nation to "make sure the tired, old two-party systems can't continue to ignore the working mums and dads, the pensioners, the students, the disabled, the blue-collar workers, the white-collar workers, the coalminers, the unemployed and all the people of Newcastle, the Hunter, and the Central Coast who just want to be given a fair go."
Dr Reed will be second on One Nation's Senate ticket in NSW, behind Riverina farmer Kate McCullouch.
He is an RAAF reservist, a former Army reserve officer and a regular visitor to Papua New Guinea providing dental and surgical services and training in remote villages.
He has also been to Texas to study the treatment of facial injuries suffered by American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Lake Macquarie's Brian Burston won a Senate seat for One Nation in 2016 but left to join Clive Palmer's United Australia Party.
Mine worker Neil Turner, who contested the state seat of Maitland for One Nation in March, will run in Paterson in the federal vote.
