Newcastle cricket mates win My Kitchen Rules crown

The Newcastle duo's modern Australian, Italian twist menu bowled over the 10 judges and more than 100 family, friends and contestants.

The pair's winning combination started with confit salmon and peas before a serving of duck ravioli with wild mushroom for the second course.

The third course kept pace with barramundi and roasted fennel before taking a run to beef cheek with parsnip mash before rounding off with a peach bellini.

"Our experience has been nothing short of a miracle, from where we've come from to where we are now, this is something I'll never forget. We bloody worked hard for this. This is going to change our lives forever," Mr Stewart, 28, said of winning the $250,000 prize.

While the partnership came off an average start, they managed to knock the competition out for six at the right time, winning even the People's Choice at the final location challenge and coming in second on the ultimate instant restaurant ladder.

"It's literally the toughest thing we've ever done in our lives, absolutely insane. This takes the cake against any cricket final I've ever been in," Matt Gawthrop, 27, said.

He and Mr Stewart play first grade cricket for Newcastle.

Sydneysiders Ibby Moubadder, 30 and Romel Kouyan, 42, narrowly missed the victory by four points after being too heavy-handed with the spice.

The socialites served a kibbeh nayeh with nigella seed lavosh followed by a Lebanese shish Barak with pine nuts and then, chargrilled octopus with muhammara.

The bursts of flavour kept coming in the fourth course with spiced kangaroo, freekeh and labneh before a mourish knafeh with pistachio ice cream.

"We're not ashamed of losing because I'm so proud of what we have done," Mr Kouyan said.

While Mr Moubadder said the pair had come in as friends and walked out best mates.

It was the first all-male grand final battle in the show's 10-year history.
