Power went out across parts of Wickham, Maryville, Newcastle and Newcastle West about 8.20am and was restored to most premises about 10.10am. About 900 homes and businesses were impacted in the blackout, which occurred when contractors working near the Wickham Interchange damaged two Ausgrid cables.
The blackout also caused traffic mayhem around the Wickham and Honeysuckle areas, with traffic lights out of service. Vehicles were backed up around Stewart Avenue and throughout the Honeysuckle precinct for the busy morning rush.
