Final Farewell for HMAS Newcastle After more than 25 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Newcastle will decommission at Garden Island, Fleet Base East, Sydney on June 30. Prior to decommissioning, HMAS Newcastle will make a final port visit to her namesake city. To mark the end of the relationship, the HMAS Newcastle company will exercise its Right of Freedom of Entry to the city of Newcastle at a Civic Park ceremony with a march through the streets.
