Crews from Raymond Terrace Fire and Rescue and the NSW Rural Fire Service contained the fire in Talavera Close about midday on Friday.
They were called after a large area of grass and swamp near Dalyell Way began to burn. On Friday afternoon crews were mopping up the remains of the blaze within containment lines.
A Raymond Terrace Fire and Rescue statement indicated that the cause of the blaze would be investigated.
"If you saw any suspicious behaviour in this area prior to the fire starting, please contact police with any information," the statement said.
Separately, crews remain vigilant of a fire burning in remote and inaccessible terrain near Bulahdelah.
The Mount Alum blaze began on Wednesday and had burned about 15 hectares by Friday afternoon.
Despite winter's chill, Port Stephens is no stranger to blazes in the colder months.
Last year the area faced serious fires in November, just months after an 'unprecedented' August bushfire.
The Raymond Terrace fire also coincided with Fire and Rescue NSW beginning a recruitment campaign, urging men and women with diverse skills to consider taking on the job.
Fire and Rescue NSW Commissioner Paul Baxter said the campaign usually attracts more than 6000 applications from diverse backgrounds.
"We are looking for people who reflect the professionalism, dedication and values of Fire and Rescue NSW, including people who may have never considered becoming a firefighter," he said.
"Our newest class of graduates - which includes a former interior designer, a professional lifeguard, a physiotherapist, a commercial diver, a youth worker and a builder - demonstrates that great firefighters come from all types of backgrounds."
"We are looking for fit, passionate and resilient individuals with well-developed interpersonal skills and the capacity to undertake the many different roles of a modern firefighter, including fire response and investigation, community engagement, rescue and hazardous materials response."
Applications are open until August 4.
