Then about 20 minutes later, and about 300 kilometres south, Phillip Thomas, the man who Mr Jordan called and told to turn around and go back to a house at Muswellbrook, was ambushed by a masked gunman who Mr Thomas says first tried to shoot him "point blank" and then blasted him in the buttock as he tried to flee.
Mr Thomas gave evidence earlier this week that he was able to identify the gunman as Daniel Paul Bell, 40, despite the fact it was dark, Mr Thomas was under the influence of methylamphetamine and the man who shot him was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava covering his face. Mr Thomas maintained during cross-examination that he was able to make a positive identification of Mr Bell as the shooter due to his "body language" and demeanour".
Mr Bell has pleaded not guilty to shoot at with intent to murder, discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault with intent to rob and on Friday faced the third day of a trial in Newcastle District Court.
Mr Jordan gave evidence on Friday, telling the jury he passed on a phone number for a mate that he knew as "Dan" or "Danny from the coast" to Mr Thomas.
Mr Thomas had already given evidence that he had gone to Muswellbrook to source two "eight balls" of ice on April 20 and again on April 21, 2017. He went home empty handed the first day, but bought two "balls" from a house on Anzac Parade on April 21, before being called back to the house, ambushed and shot. Crown prosecutor Brian Costello showed Mr Jordan a number of text messages and call logs, including a 15 second call that he suggested came from "Danny" and was made to get Mr Thomas to return to Muswellbrook after he had earlier purchased ice from a house in Anzac Parade.
"Didn't you tell Mr Thomas that he had to go back and swap the bag out and he had to see Danny?" Mr Costello asked.
Mr Jordan replied: "Yes".
The trial, before Judge Peter Whitford, SC, continues.
