Crews started the foot search on a parcel of land near Delasala Drive at Macquarie Hills just after midday on Tuesday.
Mr Thaidy has not been seen since midday Sunday.
The 60-year-old man was reported missing to police by members of his family later that day. Officers from Lake Macquarie conducted an initial canvas of the local area but he was not located.
Family members hold grave concerns for his welfare due to medical conditions. According to police he has dementia and diabetes "so may appear disoriented to members of the public".
Patrick is described as being 180cm tall, slim build, thin grey coloured hair and a short grey beard. He walks with a stoop and is frail. Patrick was last seen wearing grey Everlast track pants, blue Everlast long sleeve t-shirt, black shoes. His black/grey hair is cut short in a crew cut style and he is unshaven having black/grey facial hair.
Patrick left home without his dentures so his appearance will vary from the image being circulated. He is known to frequent areas in Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong.
Anyone who has seen Patrick or knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact police. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
