Collins was eighth at the halfway mark of the condensed six-round, two weekend series after finishing seventh in the round three eliminator format two weeks ago at the same venue.
He was seventh again on Friday in the enduro format to leapfrog Zach Morris, who was second last in the 20-man race.
The series continues with the specialist round on Saturday and finishes with another eliminator race on Sunday.
Collins is now on 51 points, three behind sixth-placed Matt Bevilacqua. He was hoping to break into the top six by the end of the final weekend.
Ali Day continued his unbeaten run as he attempts to become the first ironman to win all rounds of a series.
He finished more than a minute and a half in front of Burleigh's Jy Timperley on Friday. Surfers Paradise's Cory Taylor was third.
Meanwhile, the state age titles continued at Blacksmiths and Redhead.
Levi Gibbs (Swansea Belmont) won the under 11 surf race and combined with twins Thomas and Mitchell Chalmers to retain the male board relay title.
Sidney Burns (Cooks Hill) won the under 11 board race and ironman. Burns and Will Munro claimed the board rescue event.
Fingal Beach's Ezekiel Hay won the under-10 beach sprint.
