They were part of 815 recorded around the state in the 24 hours to 8pm Friday.

Ten people died with the virus during the reporting period.

One of those was a Lake Macquarie man aged in his 80s who had received one dose of a vaccine but had underlying health conditions.

He was being cared for in the community.

Of the Hunter's 65 cases:

Thirty-one cases were in isolation for their entire infectious period, 26 were infectious in the community, and eight remain under investigation.

Forty cases are linked to known exposures or clusters, 17 are unlinked, and the source of eight cases is not yet known.

Virus fragments were also been in sewage samples in Dungog and Karuah.

"Everyone in these areas should be particularly vigilant for symptoms and come forward for testing should they occur," NSW Health official Jeremy McAnulty said on Saturday.

The Central Coast recorded 30 cases while three were reported for the Mid North Coast.

Six cases were in undisclosed correctional settings and eight are yet to be assigned to a local health district.

More than 23,000 vaccines were administered in the reporting period with 65.2 of the state's population aged 16 and over now vaccinated.

About 87.7 per cent has received their first dose.

Dr McAnulty asked for the community to "continue to follow the safety rules" this long weekend, marking particular reference to the NRL grand final.

"It's a big one for the fans ... and while we hope everyone enjoys the game, I want to remind people to continue to follow the safety rules to keep yourself and your loved ones and your community safe from COVID," he said.

"Social gatherings are not permitted in homes because you run the risk of spreading the virus.

"And the number of fully vaccinated adults who can gather outdoors remains limited to five."
