MORE toxic waste will be added to a containment cell on the old Pasminco site at Boolaroo. Incitec Pivot has been given approval to add an extra 450,000 cubic metres of pollution, allowing the redevelopment of the site to progress.
The NSW Department of Planning approved the move, which will add to the 1.15 million cubic metres already allocated to a 20-hectare cell on the site.
Adding contaminants from the Incitec site will increase the amount of waste to 1.6 million cubic metres and raise the cell's height by four metres.
When remediation work is complete, Pasminco plans to cover the cell with a two-metre cap and landscaping.
