IT may be the product of a backyard hobby, but Ben Crockett’s home brew is the best in the country.
Learning the craft from his father, the Mulbring graphic designer handed his first bottle to judges in August.
Months later, the Australian Amateur Brewing Championships named his American pale ale the best in the field.
Despite the accolades, Mr Crockett said his brewing was strictly amateur.
‘‘I was sort of just experimenting,’’ he said.
‘‘I was only doing it to get some feedback.’’
He said he worked on his beers at his stove top before taking them into his back shed to develop. The humble home brewer said there was no doubt he put his best foot forward to win the title.
‘‘They’re definitely my best,’’ he said.
Mr Crockett said he was already looking forward to his next major hurdle in December.
‘‘I’m brewing the beers again – for the critics in my family now,’’ he said.
