During the past week there has been an increase in large Mulloway on Stockton Beach.
Fish up to 29 kilograms - that's 64 pounds - have been caught during the day and at night.
Live beach worms got the 29kg fish during the day.
It was a case of first cast, one fish then time to go home.
Legal size whiting and tailor also make great live baits and are fetching quality fish too.
One angler fishing alone at night reeled in a 55-pounder - he had to make an SOS phone call for help to carry his fish back to the car.
Anglers started to see whiting bitten in half as they were catching them on the beach, so, putting two and two together, the result was plenty of big tailor.
Tailor in the 2kg and above size range have been coming in from Stockton Beach.
The early morning and late afternoon tide changes have been the pick.
Whiting and bream have been caught on Blacksmiths Beach as well using beach worms.
Lake Macquarie is a squid paradise at the moment.
Small pilchard (blue) coloured jigs have been working a treat.
