Thomas Rex Maynard, who watched his brother Joshua get shot dead during an infamous gang-related street brawl in 2010, was already on parole for firing a gun from a Hamilton South unit.
Now he is wanted by police on fresh gun charges after running from police in one of the main streets of Raymond Terrace on Thursday.
Mr Maynard was in the passenger seat of a white Mitsubishi Magna with his mother at about 5.20pm on Thursday when police stopped the car on Port Stephens Street.
When officers decided to search the car, Mr Maynard made a run for it, jumping the fence of a nearby industrial premises.
After searching the car police allegedly found two shortened .22 calibre rifles and 28 rounds of ammunition in a backpack in the front passenger seat where Mr Maynard had been sitting.
He got away from the officers, and is yet to be found.
After the search officers drove to Mr Maynard's home in Millers Forrest and searched a caravan at the back of the property where they found more firearm parts.
Mr Maynard was already on parole for separate firearm offences dating back to 2013.
One Thursday night in October of that year, Mr Maynard was arrested for firing shots from a Hamilton South unit with a shortened .22 calibre rifle.
On that date officers found the gun and ammunition in Mr Maynard's backpack as he was leaving.
In 2011, Mr Maynard pleaded guilty to affray following the shooting death of his brother in 2010.
Evidence at the time stated the fight was between two groups; the Lake Side Crew and the Raymond Terrace Boyz.
Mr Maynard was alleged to have been associated with the latter.
Joshua Maynard was said to be armed with a small sword during the fight and asked "Who wants to get stabbed?" before he was shot in the chest with a shortened shotgun.
Thomas Maynard is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170-175 centimetres tall, of thin build, with short brown hair.
Anyone who sees Mr Maynard is urged not to approach him but to contact police immediately.
