The father of two shares his approach to responsible self-care in his first book, The Underground Health rEvolution. The timing couldn’t be better. Health and happiness tends to dominate people’s thinking in the post-Christmas weeks. Dr Fleming’s message is simple. Instead of taking a drug to treat a symptom, or simply depriving yourself of certain foods, dig deeper and find the root cause of the problem – ask why rather than going for a “quick fix”.
“Most of the health and wellness books out there work on a deprivation system, making it very hard for the reader to make a positive change. For example, sugar is bad, here is a meal plan that doesn't involve sugar,” he said.
“As there is no habitual or behavioural change with this approach, most people find it too hard, fail, then blame themselves for failing.
“I believe some experts conduct their research based on a misguided health paradigm based around looking at avoiding sickness rather than studying what is required to be healthy.”
Dr Fleming’s approach “adds all the required positive elements of health” back in to the body first before giving up the toxins: “I plant a seed in people’s minds through belief system modification techniques so when they are ready they take action and tackle the road blocks in their own time, making change sustainable.”
In a nutshell, if a person’s brain, spine and nervous system are functioning as well as they possibly can, he says, the neurological “power” controlling all body functions improves, allowing people to properly integrate exercise, what they eat and the stressors they face. It is an approach that he says worked for him.
“I am a former, self-confessed fat kid and I share that because I have been on a journey of improving my health and life for the past 20 years. I think most people want to make a change but just don't have the correct tools to do so. My book covers what I’ve been sharing with my chiropractic clients for years. Without dealing with things holistically, you’re only giving people a portion of the healthcare puzzle.”
