THE Place Charlestown Community Centre’s Young Parents Group has temporarily dissolved into a playgroup, run entirely at parents’ costs.
Funding for the group dried up in December after a one-off, $81,011 state government grant expired.
The playgroup is no longer facilitated by the centre’s staff, but by the children’s parents, and is designed to maintain the social engagement the parents group provided.
The centre is in talks with potential partners to try and secure funding to get the parents group back up and running. It costs $41,000 a year to run.
To help them, the centre has called for donations from the public. Go to theplacecharlestown.org.au to donate.
