This is the third year that council has been involved in the program and it’s a great initiative that encourages people to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty to help others.
The strength of a community is shown through its people.
Lake Macquarie’s thousands of volunteers indicate people are proud to live in our city and want to make our local area a better place.
Volunteers are an incredibly valuable part of our identity in Lake Macquarie City. They play an important role in our society, lending their time and talents, for no reward or remuneration, to support, encourage and enhance the daily lives of others.
Volunteers are essential, and many charities and community groups would struggle to survive without the support of their volunteers.
CityServe will be helping on more than ten projects across Lake Macquarie City including Wangi Oval; Belmont, Glendale and Toronto Community Childcare Centres; and John Balcombe Oval at Dudley.
The works will include a general tidy up, mulching of garden beds and painting.
It’s wonderful to see volunteers from the community come together to help improve facilities throughout the city so that everyone can enjoy them.

Win an eco-styling session
TO celebrate Op Shop Week, council is giving you the chance to win a personal styling session with eco-stylist and fashion blogger, Faye De Lanty, at this year’s Living Smart Festival, at Speers Point Park on Saturday, September 24.
Ms De Lanty is a lover of environmentally-friendly fashion and a ‘Salvonista’ ambassador for Salvos Stores Australia. She shares her passion for recycled fashion through her regular segments on Channel Nine’s The Morning Show.
One lucky Instagram follower will win a personal styling session with her at the festival. To enter, take a picture of your best op shop, vintage or second-hand find and upload it to Instagram by Sunday, September 4, using #LivingSmartFestival. The winner will be notified through Instagram.
