The Hamilton resident has made it through to the Short + Sweet finals in Sydney with his play That’s Confidence.
Baumber wrote his entry for the Sydney short play competition while sitting under a tree in National Park, Newcastle West.
‘‘For my first draft of anything I write I go outside with a pen and paper. I find the ideas come out more easily,’’ Baumber said. ‘‘It’s then edited and reworked on a computer.’’
That’s Confidence tells the story of a shy man who enlists the help of a confidence guru as he tries to ask a woman to go out with him.
‘‘I went to sleep one night thinking what would happen if a confidence CD got into your head and was in your subconscious,’’ Baumber said.
Baumber’s play, which came second in the Newcastle round of the competition, will be staged in the wildcard finals on March 3 and 4 at the King Street Theatre, Newtown.
Another Newcastle play, From A Great Height, has made it through to the Short + Sweet gala finals in March.
Both plays will feature at the Livesites event Short + Sweet by the Sea, an outdoor performance in the grounds of Nobbys lighthouse on Saturday, February 25, from 5pm.
