The concert showpiece was a performance on the koto, a traditional Japanese instrument gifted to the city by the people of Ube.
Concert-goers were also captivated by a performance on the taiko, a barrel-shaped Japanese drum.
Earlier the in day, Newcastle Region Art Gallery held an exhibition of Japanese arts and crafts to mark the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship.
Delegates will spend today in the city before departing tomorrow.
