Inspired by former Mambo owner Dare Jennings’s Deus ex Machina in Sydney, the multifaceted business opened at 3 Throsby Street in late August.
Manager Matt Harris said the aim was to create somewhere that motorcycle enthusiasts could come to share their passion.
‘‘If they’re out on their bikes they can meet here for breakfast or lunch,’’ he said. ‘‘We do detailing on weekends and they can sit outside while it’s being done, then drive away on a sparkling bike.’’
But it is also an opportunity to create a unique experience for all kinds of families and cafe connoisseurs, who can refuel while watching resident custom bike builder Jimmy Potts at work.
The cafe prides itself on coffee and asked local roaster Stephen Frame from Remedy to come up with the Wickham Blend, which is also available to take home.
Jane Nears and Sharon Wiseman have come up with a breakfast and lunch menu that is centred around organic and locally sourced produce. Dishes include organic egg and bacon wraps, locally sourced toasted muesli and roasted vegetable and feta pizza.
There is also a scrumptious assortment of cakes, cookies and other kid-friendly treats.
‘‘We hope people say ‘wow, I never expected to get the best coffee of my life from a place that sells motorbikes’.’’
Harris said there has been an overwhelming response from the local community, with tables filled during the day with mums and their kids and Honeysuckle office workers hosting meetings.
Wickham Motorcycle Co is open from 6am to 5pm, seven days a week. The business sells classic and customised bikes, parts and accessories. It also conducts repairs, services and detailing.
