Bolt was expected to arrive in Newcastle on a chartered flight from Melbourne with close friend John Steffensen, although the eight-time Olympic Gold Medallist fell ill overnight.
He was coming to town to introduce the newest team for the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
Steffensen, a two-time Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and Olympic Silver Medallist, will still be flying to Newcastle to unveil his plans to drive in 2018.
Bolt may still attend the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 over the weekend.
