Council’s Acting Manager Community Planning, Wes Hain, explained that the awards are in place to celebrate the local members of the community that both excel in their sporting achievements, or provide the frameworks for sporting stars to thrive.
“Lake Macquarie City has a rich history of being home to extraordinary sportspeople, such as Rhiannan Iffland, Emily Van Egmond, Aaron Russell and Nathan Outteridge, who are all previous Lake Macquarie Sports Awards winners,” Mr Hain said.
Nominations can be made in the following categories:
- Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year
- Junior Male Sportsperson of the Year
- Sports Administrator of the Year
- Sports Scholarship Award for Athletes with a Disability
- Masters Sportsperson of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
To be nominated for, and to win, a Lake Macquarie Sports Award in 2017 you must be a local resident of the area.
The winners will be announced at Belmont 16s Sailing Club on February 17, 2018.
Nominations will be open until January 8, 2018, and can be made online at lakemac.com.au/sportsawards.
