In celebration of International Women’s Day, The Newcastle Museum is joining local cultural collective Heart Open to host a variety of talented female-identifying feature artists, as well as an assortment of brave open-mic guests in the museum’s foyer and BHP Gallery.

Heart Open, also known as #HerArtOpen, runs a bi-monthly female-focused open-mic night that celebrates creative talent in the Hunter, and, increasingly, from around the world. This is the collective’s fourth event, with audiences growing.
Hosted by local expat writers Chloe Warren (from the UK) and Alex Morris (from the US), the events feature visual artists, comedians, musicians, political commentators, dancers and poets.
Following each performance, the artists discuss their personal journey and the creative process with the audience.
Heart Open strives to be inclusive, and offers an open-mic slot during the evening – but sign up early to avoid disappointment.
Performers at the March event include NYC sky dancer Mia Lipari, Newcastle-based visual artist Johanna Lynch, Chilean-born poet and writer Marcela Del Sol and singer, songwriter, performer and multi-instrumentalist Waria.
Doors will open at 6pm on Friday, March 9, and performances begin at 7:30.
Guests are encouraged to make a $5 donation. There will be catering on the night from Harvest and Soul.
