MUSIC, like any form of show business, is entrenched in image. But with the advent of social media sites like Instagram and its numerous filters, the image being projected to the world is becoming further and further away from reality.
In a bid expose the issue Kurri Kurri’s alt-country artist Tori Forsyth has launched a campaign urging people to upload a selfie on social media without a filter using #fkthefilterchallenge or #boycottthefilter.
Forsyth said she recently used three filters and two apps on a selfie before she considered it suitable to be uploaded.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, the unhealthy obsession with being aesthetically pleasing online,” Forsyth wrote. “To look a little better and a little happier. I buy into it and I’m guilty of it.”
Since Forsyth launched the campaign on Monday morning it’s received 133 posts, which has included support from fellow alt-country musicians Kasey Chambers, Katie Brianna and Deanna Rose.
