Lake Macquarie council has approved 24-hour trade at Swansea McDonald’s, despite some community opposition and the store being caught recently trading outside its permitted hours.

Councillors this week gave the green light to the Swansea restaurant to operate its drive through service between midnight and 5am – when the store would usually be closed.
Swansea woman Pamela James said councillors had prioritised the fast food giant’s wealth over the needs of nearby residents.
The decision to allow the 12 month trial came after an initial approval in March was the subject of a recision motion from Cr Adam Shultz, pending a site visit from councillors.
Nearby residents have expressed concern about impacts the 24-hour operation would have on noise, traffic, litter and the possibility of late night anti social behaviour in the area.
