Two men have been captured on security camera footage running through a Maitland street earlier this month carrying what appears to be a safe stolen from a nearby pub just after sunrise.
In the CCTV footage, the duo can be seen walking along a street behind the Grand Junction Hotel in Maitland with a large bag just after 6am of Thursday, May 17.
But two minutes later, the pair are seen running back down the same street with one individual carrying a heavily-loaded bag.
The incident could be linked to the robbery of Newy Buger Co’s Maitland business, located inside the Grand Junction Hotel, which had a safe stolen between Tuesday evening and mid-Thursday of the same week.
Newy Buger Co owner Ben Neil believes the footage is of the thieves who stole his store’s safe.
“We’ve a great amount of support of people wanting to find justice for the safe that was knocked off,” he said.
“Some video footage, some CCTV footage has come out and we’re hopeful with this and some progress that the police have made that the right person will be apprehended and justice served.”
The Newcastle Herald reported earlier this month how the stolen safe contained money Newy Burger Co had been raising for a local family whose boy has Leukaemia.
“That’s the hard thing, we do what we can do for charity, and to have that taken away is the part that hurts the most,” Mr Neil said at the time.
NSW Police have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
