The 40-36 victory was a “combined effort” Johnson said, but the club’s helmswoman pinpointed goal attack Georgia Marr and star utility Michelle McPherson as two of the standout players for the Central team.
“Marr was feeding fantastic balls into the circle [when she was playing at goal attack], as was McPherson,” Johnson said. “McPherson played all over the court, and was bringing a lot of that attack when she was at centre.”
“Everyone had a really consistent game, there was never a point where we had to panic because it always felt like we were ahead, and I’m not so sure we ever dropped into a trailing score. We also had that little bit of the lead.”
Johnson is also looking forward to the upcoming two-week break that will help the team “recover” from the series of knocks and bumps they’d collected so far this season.
“We had a lot of women in attack and defence struggling with some knocks across the court, but we’re hoping we’re on the road to recovery now,” Johnson said. “The holiday break will be crucial.”

“The team is hoping to make the finals, we’re not so sure how we’ll go in the series itself but we definitely think we can get into the series and have a good crack at it, now that we’re recovering.”
Elsewhere on Saturday, Heat have remained undefeated after the opening ten rounds of the competition, recording a 66-30 win over United Fever. They remain five points ahead of second place Watters, who defeated Fury in the same round.
Finally, Job Done bumped Purnells out of a top four position with their 60-51 victory, a worrying spot to be for the defeated squad as the last rounds of the season begin to loom in Charlestown’s A Grade.
