After two seasons away working on a farm in North Queensland, Peter Urquhart is back home at Maitland and lending the Rams a helping hand in more ways than one during a milestone campaign.
Not only is the 30-year-old, former NSW representative and two-time Hunter Coast Premier Hockey League player of the year donning his beloved black and white uniform again, but he and his family are helping build the new clubhouse.
Urquhart’s younger brother and teammate Ben as well as father, Rams 1978 original, Garry are in the process of construction and it comes as Maitland gear up for their 40th-anniversary dinner next Saturday night (July 7) at Easts Golf Club.
“I had goosebumps the first time I took the field again this year,” Urquhart said. “And it feels really good to help contribute with building the club as well.”
Maitland, who are fifth on the ladder and in a fight to make the semis, were minor premiers in 2010 but have yet to claim the first-grade title.
There are no round games this weekend with Newcastle hosting several divisions of the NSW Masters Championships.
