
Almost 350 employees were evacuated, with 11 treated at the scene, after a chemical spill at a Beresfield factory.
Just before 7.30pm Friday emergency services were called to the processing plant to reports of an accident.
On arrival at the scene, emergency crews found roughly 350 people were forced to evacuate the building after a dangerous ammonia leak.
Nine of those treated at the scene, including four men and five women, have been taken to John Hunter, The Mater and Maitland hospitals for observation following exposure to the chemical.
Fire & Rescue NSW – Hazmat secured the scene.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District also attended, with investigations being undertaken by SafeWork NSW
