Hamilton have secured their fifth Newcastle Dodgeball League championship after an 11-6 victory over debut finalists Belmont.
The tenth season silverware also established the league-founding club as the strongest enterprise in the competition, but their win in the decider took second half momentum to confirm.
Belmont came out of the gates strong, taking the game to the season premiers and matching them set-for-set as the second half whistle heralded a 4-all draw.
The second half saw the balance shift towards Hamilton however, as their individual talent came to the fore – key eliminations from Harry Gibson after two heart-stopping dodges swung momentum early in the half, and catches for Doug Byrne and Lachlan Craig slowed Belmont’s pacey tempo.
Despite the runners-up’s best efforts, Hamilton controlled the tail-end of the Season 10 final, stretching a level half-time score out with their seven sets to two run, and the eventual five-set margin confirmed their names on the league silverware.
Despite their five-set defeat, Belmont were considered the most consistent club for most of the regular season, and will have all eyes on them as they recruit in the off-season and return for Season 11.
The league’s Team of the Season was also confirmed, with Eva Bailey, Jakub Lunarzewski (Waratah), Benjamin McIntyre, Lewis Foot (Cooks Hill) and Alexander McIntyre (Hamilton) rounding out the honours.
Raymond Terrace’s Peter Goldthorpe was named the season’s Most Valuable Player.
